Alzheimer's - It's Not My Fault (see article my Richard Taylor from June 30, 2006)
I have just read Richard's column for the first time. I wonder if there is any way to communicate with him, or if he would even desire that? My Mother is in stage 6 and I so wished I had read what Richard had to say much earlier. How it would have helped me in the way I related to her early on. Now it's too late to realize what I could have done to help her in those early years.
Thank you for carrying this. I just thought he sounds lonely and maybe I could write to him.
Sincerely,
Ginger Young/Burleson, Tx.

In response to Richard Taylor's words, it is hard to believe that someone who thinks so clearly as Richard does actually has been afflicted with Alzheimer's disease for five years! He is just right-on in his awareness of how people tend to treat others once they've been diagnosed. It is shameful as well, to make any person feel less necessary by such inconsiderate behavior. As long as a person can think and reason they should be treated as they always have been! None of us knows when it may be our turn to enter that fearful tunnel. Meet reason with compassion.
