Assisted Living, Erratic Regulation
Letter to the Editor
Regarding: "For example, in Minnesota, there are no staff requirements whatsoever, while in New Mexico, a professional caregiver needs only to be over 18 and pass a background check. A mere 32 states require CPR and first aid certification. Just 24 require a nurse on staff, and Alabama is the only state in which the medical director must be a doctor."

I'm sure you have now heard from many people from Minnesota regarding regulation of assisted living and know that we now have legislation going into effect that addresses staffing issues and other problems. The Alzheimer's Association of MN-ND was an instrumental part of a diverse consortium of interested parties, including owners of assisted living facilities, who worked on drafting this bill and getting it passed.
